Job description:

General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

This role will drive best practice planning for Cobre Panama HME Assets ensuring the consistent application of maintenance planning processes, procedures, and systems. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the is responsible for providing strong and clear leadership to our on-site Asset Management team, whilst also facilitating the development of mobile asset maintenance improvement plans, developing cost saving initiatives and aligning the department's strategies to the overall business goals.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) Certification or Bachelor qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years’ experience in planning, industrial maintenance, maintenance engineering or operations maintenance management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in frontline supervision, preferably in Mining environment.
  •  Bilingual skills (Spanish / English)
  • Strong technical mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Good understanding of Maintenance Management processes.
  • Good understanding of KPIs and metrics.
  • Knowledge of components failure analysis.
  • Knowledge in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring.
  • Solid knowledge in the management of ERPs.

Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables 

  • Supervise all maintenance planning activities and ensure the weekly planning cycle supports the operation to minimize maintenance related downtime and unanticipated costs.
  • Setting and tracking Work Management KPIs for Planning and Maintenance, such as Schedule Compliance, Scheduled Work Percentage, and Schedule Loading reports
  • Monitor and controlling operating expenses through interrogation of financial reports, reporting on cost variances to management and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of personal commitment in regard to Safety, Environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Control the warehouse inventory to ensure parts availability for critical assets in conjunction with purchasing.
  • Develop, implement and improve various reports and KPIs for Planning and Maintenance, including reports on Schedule Compliance, Scheduled Work Percentage and Schedule Loading.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance, component replacement, major shuts and rebuild plans are developed and regularly updated.
  • Monitor operating expenses, damage costs through review of financial reports, reporting on cost variances to management and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of personal commitment in regard to Safety, Environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Identify maintenance planning improvement initiatives and implement them in conjunction with mobile maintenance management.
  • Recommending alternative measures to continuously reduce costs of maintenance.
  • Evaluate employee progress through the performance management system, provide instruction and mentoring to support or correct behaviours, and develop a succession plan for the group.
  • Perform any other duties as required .

Operational Requirements

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
  • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
