Job description:

General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

Reports to the designated Laboratory Supervisor and is responsible for the implementation of field soil testing and measurements, sampling and processing of material in the laboratory related to the QAQC program for road construction and additional within the mine site.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Driving license
  • Good communication skills with a positive attitude
  • Basic knowledge of reading, writing and arithmetic.
  • Be able to perform physical labor; ability to lift 10 kg.
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Fluency in Spanish is required and fluency in English is no required.

Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables 

  • Punctuality Perform all tasks in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain in good order all field and laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the laboratory facilities.
  • Receive, record, handle, store and dispose of samples
  • Sample and sort aggregates from the various production runs of the crushers
  • Slump taking, concrete sampling and test execution.  
  • Knowledge of performing trowel shear tests.
  • Support in the performance of the California bearing ratio test.
  • Performing dynamic cone penetration test.
  • Maintain records of all test results.
  • Understand ASTM standards.
  • Continue in the process of learning laboratory testing.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the laboratory supervisor. Control, report and reduce operational costs, and ensure cost consideration taken with all decisions.
  • Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with H&S quality and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Undertake nominated training activities to maintain and up-skill required competencies.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by Supervisor

Operational Requirements

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
  • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
