Job description:

General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

Reporting into the Senior Financial Accountant, the Coordinator, Accounting – will provide strong accounting support and be responsible for the preparation of accounting reports and play a crucial role in determining the correct revenue amounts. The role will have a close relationship with our intercompany partners and commercial teams within the FQM Group.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Chartered Professional Accounting Program (CPA)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in financial accounting with particular focus on the revenue accounts receivable cycle.
  • Advanced Excel Knowledge
  • JDE Advantageous
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office/MS Suite, particularly Excel
  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards or other ERP Software systems is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in financial accounting with particular focus on the revenue accounts receivable cycle.
  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • Strength in planning and organisation.
  • Strong ability to adhere to standards and hold accountability for accuracy of output and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Fluency in English and Spanish highly regarded.

Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables 

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Ensuring the safety and health of themselves and others in the workplace by being responsible for their actions and taking due care while performing their work
  • Using and maintaining personal, protective equipment (PPE)
  • Supervise a team of two officers as well as performing direct hands-on accounting tasks.
  • Ensure that all functions are carried out in accordance with Group policies and procedures as well as complying with all relevant statutory requirements.
  • Account for the collection of all revenues of Cobre Panama
  • Liaise regularly with various external and internal stakeholders including auditors.
  • Control all processing and reconciliation of accounts receivable area.
    • Issue provisional and final invoices to customers and process mark-market adjustments.
    • Calculate and reconcile royalty accrual.
    • Monthly reconciliation of customer accounts.
    • Weekly reporting of invoicing, aging, cash receipts and adjustments
    • Timely collection of revenue.
    • Monitor and report on deviations from credit standards.
    • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing
    • Ensure cash receipts are applied properly.
    • Establish and manage credit limits based on Company policies.
    • Seek out and recommend improvements to the quality of invoicing and collection procedures.
  • Work with the Senior Financial Accountant to ensure all month-end accounting procedures are completed within month-end close off deadlines ensuring that accurate reporting is achieved.
  • Preparation of financial statements and notes in a timely manner.
  • Implement and employ appropriate internal controls in line with the operating environment.
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with appropriate accounting standards, legislation and corporate policies/procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Operational Requirements

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based off-site with frequent travel to the mine site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama
  • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
