Job description:

Position Purpose

The Finance Superintendent is responsible for leading, supervising, and optimizing all financial activities of the mining projects in Peru, including accounting, cost control, financial planning, treasury, tax, internal controls, payroll and other administrative support. The role ensures the integrity of financial information, supports operational and strategic decision-making, and guarantees compliance with Peruvian regulatory requirements while safeguarding company assets and contributing to the achievement of the company’s Strategic Plan.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Lead the annual budget, forecasts, and medium- and long-term planning processes.

  • Analyze variances vs. budget and recommend corrective actions.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for local management and corporate headquarters.

  • Develop financial models, sensitivity analyses, and economic evaluations for CAPEX, projects, etc.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the monthly close process in compliance with IFRS and the Peruvian chart of accounts (PCGR).

  • Ensure accurate accounting of costs, liabilities, consumptions, assets, and provisions.

  • Manage the Fixed Assets module, reconciliations, depreciation, and disposals.

  • Coordinate internal and external audits, as well as reviews requested by banks or regulatory entities (DAC, MINEM, etc).

  • Prepare and review diverse corporate reports.

  • Supervise Payroll process.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Prepare the operation’s cash flow forecast and Cash Calls to coordinate funding requirements.

  • Manage banking relationships, credit lines, bond letters, and adherence to authorization matrices.

  • Oversee local payment processes, including withholdings and deductions , in compliance with Peruvian regulations.

  • Coordinate treasury matters with corporate.

Tax Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with SUNAT obligations, including: Monthly filings (IGV – VAT, ITAN, withholdings, perceptions, detraccions) payroll taxes, annual Income Tax return, electronic books (PLE)

  • Coordinate and lead tax audits and mitigate tax risks.

  • Represent the company before tax and administrative authorities.

  • Prepare and conduct exploration related VAT reimbursement proceedings.

  • Prepare and coordinate corporate tax reporting.

  • Experience with SIRE system.  

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Implement internal controls aligned with corporate standards.

  • Act as company representative and exercise powers of attorney in accordance with authority limits under the FQM corporate policy and applicable local policies.  

  • Monitor and oversee that powers of attorney and approvals in general are exercised in compliance with the authority limits under the FQM corporate policy and applicable local policies.

  • Safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies and Peruvian regulations (labor, tax, corporate).

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and financial risk assessments.

  • Support in managing insurance policies: health, property, liability, etc.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise staff in finance area (accounting, taxes, reporting, treasury).

  • Identify competency gaps and promote ongoing training and professional development.

  • Foster a culture of safety, ethics, and operational excellence.

  • Positively contribute, through strong leadership, and adherence to the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.

  • Acting Office Manager for the Chiclayo Office provided he(she) is the most senior person (subject to change as the project goes forward).

 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPC) highly desired.

  • Master’s degree in Finance or an MBA is an advantage.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in Finance or Accounting.

  • Minimum 3-5 years in a superintendent or management role.

  • Proven experience in the mining or extractive industry in Peru.

  • ·trong understanding of IFRS, local tax obligations, mining cost structures, and audit processes.

 

Technical Skills

  • Proven advanced English

  • Advanced Excel, financial modeling, and analytical skills.

  • Experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of Peruvian regulations: tax, labor, IFRS application in Peru, and mining-sector obligations.

  • Understanding of supply chain, logistics, fixed assets and inventory control processes in mining.
